Their designs and making methods are inspired by their mutual love of mathematics and science.

Their journey started in a small Devon jewellers where they worked alongside each other as goldsmiths. From the very beginning Luke and Emma shared their knowledge and ideas on art, design, science and jewellery making techniques.

To further and foster their interest and skill in designing and making, Luke advanced to working as a high-end diamond mounter in Mayfair London. Emma went on to complete her fellowship at Bishopsland Education Trust after completing her degree in Three-dimensional design – metalwork and jewellery at UCA, Farnham.

In 2010 they established Shimell and Madden, to realise their ambition to craft contemporary jewellery using technically advanced hand-making techniques. Their pieces are made to mathematical precision and designed using a shared language of structural systems.

Since their inception they have been singled out as a brand to watch, receiving ‘The Best New Design Award’ at their first exhibition by The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. They have featured in Elle, Vogue, Wallpaper and The Financial Times to name but a few. Their work has been exhibited at The V&A, Saatchi Gallery and Somerset House.

Selected by the British Fashion Council and Stephen Webster MBE they represented the best of British fine jewellers as part of the renowned collective ‘Rock Vault’. At London Fashion Week they presented their jewellery collection to HM Queen Elizabeth. Curated selections of their collections are available in galleries and stores all over the world, find out where here.
